Drisha Music Academy was established in 2002. In 2005 the academy shifted it's base from Pune, India to Johannesburg to teach Indian Classical and Light Vocal Music. The home base for the academy is Johannesburg, however, in 2011 classes were established in Durban.

The academy was established by Mrs. Monali Shome (Sangeet Prabhakar in Hindustani Classical Music) and is affiliated to the University of Chandigarh – Pracheen Kala Kendra, India. There are currently over 120 students (both children and adults) who are improving their singing styles using Hindustani Classical Music as a basis. The school operates on a non-profit basis and the development of the student is given the highest priority.

The academy has created public platforms for its students in order to develop its students holistically and to develop local singing talents. Over the last 2 years, the school has organized two annual shows. The first was a Ghazal Show in which a handful of students got the opportunity to perform live on stage with Mrs Shome and her Guruji, Ashok Dutta (A disciple of the Great Ghulam Ali). The funds generated were then used to fund the academy’s Annual Guru Purnima Concert in which every single student was able to perform live on stage
